USHERS GUIDE
1. Arrive Early, 15 to 30 minutes before the
Liturgy.
2. Ushers are requested to wear sport coats for Church Services with
the exception from May 1st to the 3rd week in October.
3. All ushers should wear their usher pins.
4. Report to the Mass Captain or Co-Captain
5. Assist People who wish to be seated.
6. Maintain a polite and courteous attitude at all times.
7. All Ushers are to maintain their position assigned to them by the
Mass Captain or Co-Captain.
8. All ushers visiting a Mass not assigned to them are encouraged to
check in with the Mass Captain and offer to help if needed.
9. Mass Captains are to have a full crew (no less than 4 ushers) a. Use
your assigned ushers. b. Use any visiting usher. 3. Use any member of the
Parish that is willing to help as an usher.
10. Mass Captains are to use all ushers assigned to that specific Mass.
Mass Captains are not permitted to substitute any ushers that may be visiting
that Mass or Parish member causing the regular assigned usher to be misplaced.
11. Mass Captains: If you have asked a visiting usher or a parish
member to help with the various duties and the regular assigned usher entered
the Mass late, Please also try to use the regular assigned
usher. Also ask the parish member if they would like to become an usher.
12. Mass Captains are responsible for selecting and assisting the
people who will carry the Gifts to the Priest. Mass Captains should try not to
collect in order to properly carry out this duty.
13. All business between Mass Captains and ushers must be conducted
prior to Mass in the Vestibule. Talk as
little as possible during the
14. Christmas and Easter Masses: Ushers are requested to attend their
assigned Mass.
Holy Days of Obligation: Ushers
are requested to help with the Mass they are attending.
15. Ushers Note: Except for emergencies, there should be no disturbance

21. The President will assign any group of ushers to any additional
Mass that may be scheduled throughout the course of the year. No group of

assigned to them.
22. Any usher wishing to transfer to another Mass must inform the
President. The Mass that you wish to transfer to may already have a full crew
placing you in the visiting ushers’ category.
23. All discrepancies will be settled by the President.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
All Ushers should know where everything is located.
1. The telephone is located in the sacristy ( dial out is direct ) dial 911 for emergencies
2. In the event of a fire and in your judgment the fire
can be contained, extinguish the fire. If the fire is becoming to hard to control pull the fire alarm and evacuate the
church. If evacuation becomes necessary open all doors.
3. Fire extinguishers are located by the left front exit
doors, in the rear of the church, and in the balcony by the entrance / exit
doors.
4. A wheelchair is in the usher’s room
5. The first aid kit is in the usher’s room
6. Cups for water and ice are in the sacristy
7. The ice machine is in the cafeteria.
8. Ask any doctor or nurse for assistance with any medical problem.
9. Should you need a priest during mass please go to the rectory for
assistance.
10. Some of these items may be temporarily moved.
